The Extended Day Program meets Indiana Afterschool Network standards. We adhere to the National Afterschool Association Best Practices, and utilize the Indiana Quality Practice Self-Assessment Program (IN-QPSA).
All staff complete background checks, employee orientation, and Child Abuse Prevention training upon hire. Staff also participate in continued professional development opportunities to provide continued high-quality care and education.
The Extended Day staff strive to plan high-quality activities based on student’s interests, and rotate activities often.
Activities may include:
The following meals are available in the Extended Day Program:
Breakfast (Morning Program): A nutritious breakfast will be available during morning programs. Payment arrangements for breakfast should be made with MCCSCC’s Food Services.
Snack (Afternoon Program): A snack is available to all students in the Extended Day afternoon program. Snacks are indended to be nutritious and to give your student energy, not to be a full meal. The cost of snack is included in program fees. Snacks from home are not allowed.
In the event urgent communication needs to be distributed, Extended Day staff will communicate with parents/guardians via phone, text message, and email with a detailed message. Please be sure you have an updated phone number and email address on your account to receive these messages. Updates to your account may be made through the Procare Parent Portal or by contacting the Office of Early Learning and Out of School Programs.
We believe students develop problem-solving abilities, self-discipline and increased self-esteem through positive and undertanding interactions with adults.
Staff will guide students in conflict resolution techniques through communication that allows development in understanding and respect for others. The goal of behavior management in the Extended Day Program is to establish and maintain a friendly, fun, and safe environment for all.
The Extended Day Program uses Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) as a set of ideas and tools to support students in their development.
Check-In/Check-Out Procedures:
To ensure the safety of all students, Extended Day requires that each student be signed in and signed out by a parent/guardian or other auhorized adult each day.
Students attending the afternoon program must be checked out of the Extended Day program by parent/guardians or another authorized adult listed on the enrollment form.
Photo identification of the authorized adult will be required everyday at pick up. After I.D. and authorization have been confirmed, a staff memeber will sign-out the student(s).
Building Safety:
All MCCSC elementary schools are equpped with a video entry system enabling the school building to be locked at all times. In order to enter the building, families will be required to ring the video monitor to access the building.
Medical Emergency and Illnesses:
A student must not attend any Extended Day Program with any of the following symptoms:
If your student has a fever of 100 degrees or more, or has vomited or had diarrhea, they must stay home until they are symptom free without the use of over-the-counter medications for 24 hours.
When a student shows signs of illness while participating in the program, the parent/guardian or emergency contact will be notified to pick-up the student immediately. We appreciate your promptness in taking a sick student home for the health of others.
All minor incidents, such as scrapes and scratches, will be treated by the Extended Day Program staff and will be reported to you at the end of the program.
Medication:
Extended Day staff can administer medication under the following conditions:
Accidents and Injuries:
If a student has a MINOR INJURY, a staff person will inform the parents/guardians upon arrival at the program.
If a SERIOUS ACCIDENT occurs, a staff person will contact the parent/guardian immediately so that the student may receive necessary medical treatment.
If an EMERGENCY occurs, and immediate attention is needed, the staff will call 911 and then immediately contact the parent/guardian. Paramedics will decide on the appropriate action. If the student needs emergency treatment, the paramedics will move the student to the nearest facility. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to keep all emergency information current.
Emergency Preparedness:
All Extended Day sites practice emergency drills, and the Extended Day Program has implemented emergency procedures that include moving children to safe locations, checking attendance, notifying authorities, checking for injuries, and notifying parents/guardians. Evacuation procedures for persons with mobility challenges are included in the site’s emergency plan. If a parent/guardian is unable to contact the Extended Day Program during the emergency, we will coordinate any necessary care with the authorities until the parent/guardian is contacted.
All Schools Closed/eLEARNING:
Extended Day Program: If MCCSC is closed or moves to an eLearning day due to winter weather conditions, all Extended Day programs are closed.
All Schools Delayed:
Extended Day Program: If MCCSC operates on a two-hour delay, the Extended Day program will operate on the normal schedule, and extend program hours until school begins.
All Schools Dismissed Early:
Extended Day Program: If MCCSC announces an early dismissal, Extended Day program will begin at dismissal time and end at normal operating hours.
